Supporting Rural Veterans

America’s rural communities are home to millions of men and women who have served in our armed forces, many of whom are living with a disability. This year CoBank will again partner with No Barriers USA and our customers to honor and support these veterans by sponsoring up to 50 rural veterans with disabilities to experience the No Barriers Warrior program. Our sponsorship covers all associated costs for each veteran participant.

As a key component of our No Barriers Warrior program, we’re inviting our customers to participate in our enhanced nomination/referral process to identify deserving veterans who are interested in this challenging and inspiring outdoor program or attending the annual No Barriers Summit. As vital members of our nation’s rural communities, we believe our customers have the insight and personal relationships to identify deserving individuals who can best benefit from the CoBank/No Barriers program.

Nomination/Referral Process

This year, CoBank customers are welcome to nominate/recommend an unlimited number of veterans in their communities. Veterans must be contacted in advance of being nominated to ensure they are interested in this demanding and empowering program. In order to complete the process, the veteran is required to complete the CoBank/No Barriers program application.* Completed applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis. The nomination/application period opens on January 15 and closes April 15. Selected participants will be announced on Friday, June 8.

In order to allow us to track nominations and resulting applications, customers should email the name of their nominated veterans to NoBarriers@cobank.com.

About the No Barriers Warrior Program

The CoBank/No Barriers program for rural veterans is more than just a mountain vacation, it provides an opportunity for veterans with disabilities to challenge their own limitations, both real and perceived, physical and mental. Through successfully completing demanding activities like rafting, rock climbing and hiking, participants become better-equipped to overcome the obstacles they face in their daily lives. By sharing the experience with other veterans with disabilities, they also build a network of support that can last a lifetime.

The CoBank/No Barriers program offers the opportunity for veterans to attend one of four five-day expeditions in Colorado, at two challenge levels: two moderate and two difficult. Participants may also elect to attend the No Barriers Summit instead of one of the expeditions.
