Brett Challenger

Regional Agribusiness Banking Group

Brett Challenger manages the agribusiness lending operations of CoBank’s Eastern Region, which includes the St. Louis, Louisville, and Enfield, Connecticut, banking centers. These banking centers support agribusiness customers in 27 states.

Mr. Challenger’s team specializes in serving the needs of agricultural cooperatives and other commercial agribusinesses that process, market, transport and export agricultural commodities. The majority of these customers are in the grain and farm supply industries, but other major industries include dairy; timber; fruit, nut and vegetables; feed production and milling. Mr. Challenger also coordinates efforts with Farm Credit associations throughout the eastern United States. He has more than 25 years of experience in advising, lending and raising capital for companies across multiple industries, including agriculture, power, energy, water, waste and infrastructure. He is based in St. Louis and is a member of the bank’s Senior Leadership Team.   

Mr. Challenger joined CoBank in 2006, most recently serving as senior vice president for CoBank’s Energy and Water banking division. Prior to joining CoBank, he was a senior vice president and principal, serving as a key member of the initial management team of Duke Capital Partners, a mezzanine debt and equity investment management company wholly owned by Duke Energy Corporation. He also served as the managing director and co-head of the energy and power group within structured syndicated debt capital markets at Banc of America Securities, LLC, and spent two years in Singapore arranging debt and providing advice to U.S.-based clients pursuing opportunities in Southeast Asia and Australia.

Mr. Challenger earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from University of Colorado, and a master’s degree in business administration from University of Cincinnati.
